A day with ...
Jörg Seydler, fire protection engineer and head of the plant fire department at the Holzminden site. Should there be an emergency at Symrise, Symotion or Tesium, he and his seven full-time colleagues will be there immediately – not to mention the 70 part-time members that make a powerful plant fire department possible. They have taken on this task voluntarily in addition to their normal activities in the Symrise Group.

Jörg Seydler

Head of the plant fire department

Holzminden, Germany
7:30 a.m.
Jörg’s workday starts in the office. He mainly deals with preventive fire protection and assists with all the construction projects in Holzminden. To this end, he prepares fire protection concepts and reviews specialist planning.
9:45 a.m.
Project meeting: Together with Symrise project managers Peter Bräul and Tapio Behrens from plant planning, Jörg discusses the plans for optimizing the FT2 plant in chemical production.
11:20 a.m.
Time to go to the construction site. Before the work is approved, Jörg checks with Stefan Rössel, the foreman responsible for the wastewater facilities, whether the required safety measures at an excavation pit to restore a wastewater pipe have been implemented and are being maintained.

1:59 p.m.
Fire alarm: On the way to the next meeting, the plant fire department is alerted to a triggered fire detector in a production area. With his bicycle, Jörg covers the 250 m to the fire station the fastest.
2:01 p.m.
Status report: When on duty, Jörg receives feedback on the situation at the site from the first arriving plant fire department manager and coordinates further emergency response. Luckily it was only a false alarm during cleaning work in this case.
4:30 p.m.
In the afternoon, the plant fire department conducts a hazardous materials exercise at the new logistics center. The Symrise plant fire department’s approximately 40 practice exercises each year focus in particular on handling hazardous materials safely and acquiring knowledge of the locations.
